2008 Post Race Reports:

Thompson International  Speedway 2008

I couldn't get back on the track fast enough. Getting bonus points for being the leader last race was a tease. This week we had a real bullet, no worries, we were careful working with live ammunition.

Practice

We unloaded and in the first time out we were third fastest; we made a swing on the chassis and slowed us down a tick. After the first time on the track I knew we had something we could work with and get it right. By the end of the second practice we had found a good balance which is key for consistency.

Qualify

During our allotted practice time, we didn't make a mock Qualifying run, however I felt confident of the changes Fuz, (Crew Chief), had decided on. Stepping up and posting a 8th place starting spot was good, I felt if we could start in the top ten here we had a shot to win.

Race

It wasn't three laps into the race that I realized just how good a piece I had in race trim. It was responsive and stable. It didn't take long before we were chasing down the leader, familiar sight, but I had a plan. About lap 35 we jumped out in the lead and the view was great. The car was on rails and we ended up leading the most laps that night. After my teammate edged me out on one of the restarts I knew he would be a factor, but only if he was in the outside lane, the preferred lane. Second to last restart we pull ahead and at this point I was hoping we were done with the cautions, they seemed like they wouldn't stop, and sure enough one more. I knew Trevor would be fast and we had raced each other hard but clean on all restarts so far, now it was a sprint. Somehow I had to hold him off, and get back on my marks as soon as possible. Green drops, we roll both with good momentum and an awesome start, side by side into turn one, he pulls about half a car length coming off of two as I'm steering out of the right side window. At the end of the day we finished one-two which is great for Dale Earnhardt Inc. All three cars broke into the top five for the third time this season. Next stop Nashville, the "Old Fair Grounds."
